The Scholars’ Lab at UVa Library hosted a forum on Nov. 20 in honor of GIS Day.   This is an international “day” to promote the many real-life applications of GIS(geospatial information systems).

Seventeen SVGS students along with teachers, Jo-el Nelson and Daniela Sava attended this conference.  In addition,several students presented  “lightning talks”.  These students were Kyle Bishop, Teagan O’Brien, Mark Jackson, Jonah Taylor, Sarah Kullman, Elena Miller, Sam Goodson, Miles Harnard and Tori Graham.  In a “lightning talk”,each speaker will be given five minutes with a maximum of ten slides. Students talked about their use of various GIS techniques in mapping Frontier Culture Museum farms.
