SVGS Electric Vehicle Team News – Fall, 2014

This year is off to a rapid start with car shows and events. We’ve also benefitted from some generous donations that will help us to continue the momentum from last year. We look forward to a productive year, with more public appearances and competitions on the horizon.

It started with the Staunton Car Show on September 13th, where the Vollmers’ tent protected us from the rain, and possible electrocution. The next day, we received (90) 100 Amp-Hour Lithium cells which we will use to convert the Porsche from Lead-Acid batteries. Over the summer, the Porsche was repaired and repainted by Foreign Affairs, including a custom lightning mural on the hood.

The Shenandoah Valley British Car Club invited us (with our Japanese and German cars) to attend the big show on October 4th at Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro, where we re-connected with EV Team alumni and made some valuable new contacts.

The next weekend (October 10th & 11th), we attended the Northampton Electric Auto Team event at the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research near Roanoke Rapids. On Friday, our coaches and students put on workshops on controllers, circuits and batteries for the newer schools.
