We are so grateful to The Shenandoah Valley Art Center for letting us showcase our students’ work in this beautiful setting. The Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School offers a regional art program that connects visual arts juniors and seniors with other talented students from Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro. Our college-level studio setting encourages students to develop their own unique aesthetic built on a strong foundation in technical skill. Regular peer critiques and study of influential artists assist students in formulating educated opinions regarding quality and
intended purpose of visual art.

Our program encourages students to explore a range of approaches and eventually dedicate time to concentrating on media and subject matter of personal interest. In our AP Studio course, this concentration on selected media or subject matter is referred to as “Sustained Investigation”. The pieces in this show exhibit individual areas of interest within our visual art program. Students have thought carefully about the subject matter of their work and the media in which they communicate their message.

This is a juried show, adjudicated by SVGS art students and staff.
Students judged the work of their peers based on
• Interpretation and clarity of theme to the viewer
• Creativity and originality of the depicted theme
• Quality of composition, craftsmanship, and design quality
The pieces you see were rated the highest among all work submitted. Please feel free to ask individual students about their sustained investigations and congratulate them on their creative work.
