Monday, September 21– Parent Presentation: “The College Application Process” @ 6:30 p.m. at SVGS
This presentation is open to all SVGS students and parents. The session will include a discussion of ways to minimize stress in the college application process and suggestions for testing and advice on the college admissions process regarding the re-designed PSAT and SAT.
SVGS provides an opportunity for students and parents to receive additional support by making college counseling resources available. We are extremely fortunate to have Mr. Russ Ingersoll serve SVGS in that capacity. Mr. Ingersoll retired from Fishburne with over 30 years of experience in student counseling and has been working as a college counselor in the area since 2011. Mr. Ingersoll will be at SVGS on the dates listed below.

Testing
Juniors: All juniors should take the PSAT this year to practice for the redesigned format of the SAT beginning in March 2016. Students need to register with for testing with their high school. Each school sets its own deadline for registration which are usually mid-September. The PSAT date is Wednesday, Oct. 14. The PSAT is given at the high school so students testing will miss SVGS that morning. We will adjust our schedule to minimize missed work.
Seniors: The deadline to register for the Oct. SAT is Sept. 3. The deadline to register for the Oct. ACT is Sept. 18. It is recommended that seniors take the SAT or ACT at least twice. The Oct. test results are returned in time for early decision admission consideration. Scores from later testing dates are not usually considered in early admissions decisions. The Oct. test is important for students not planning on early decision to provide flexibility if students wish additional testing opportunities to improve their scores.
College Night
College Night is typically held at RHS from 6:30 -8:00 p.m. Nearly 60 college/university representatives as well as representatives from the armed forces will be available to talk with parents about opportunities beyond high school. Contact your high school counselors for more details.
